In order to make use of ancient maps, historical maps, topographical maps, fire insurance maps, and even gazette maps from previous centuries, you must first learn to identify the location of a piece of land or house. There are several methods that were historically done to describe the land. This is how you can use one of those methods, called metes and bounds, to locate your ancestor’s land on a map.
